Our conceptual design for the kindergarten competition for which we received honorable mention (4-th place), responds critically
to modernist methodologies, focusing on a functional, aesthetic space free from unnecessary elements. Our goal was to create a flexible, inviting
environment—a ‘blank canvas’ that encourages children’s creativity and exploration. This design features playrooms, themed courtyards, and open, safe
areas for interactive play.
Inspired by the archetypal atrium house, the central garden (Hortus Conclusus) serves as the building’s spatial and symbolic heart. Around it,
we arranged key programmatic wings: a north service wing for easy delivery access, adaptable classrooms with movable partitions to the south and west,
and an entrance and triage area on the east.
The courtyard comprises thematic zones, beginning with a passive ‘L’-shaped play area that transitions naturally into other zones. The compact design
minimizes corridors, maximizing energy efficiency and natural light throughout. Light exterior materials reflect sunlight, aiding cooling, while a
grass roof provides thermal insulation. Solar panels and water heating systems also capitalize on the building's orientation and sun exposure.
This inclusive kindergarten is designed to inspire creativity, resilience, and community, fostering individual growth and collective responsibility
in children.
